This cave hides a wonderful secret. Hanging from the crags and cracks in the ceiling is a cauldron of bats. These mammals hide in the unseen darkness. Their talons lock in a relaxed state and they hang upside down. Their tiny hearts pump with enough force to keep blood rushing, even in this unusual posture. Unlike other creatures of flight, these night wings have trouble achieving air from ground. They drop from a high perch to launch themselves into the sky. Even more curious, this animal of shadow flies with their hands. Their wings are actually thin membranes divided by fingers. Don't fear these stealthy aviators. They are not the undead vampires of lore. They are amazing denizens of darkness.
