Creative Jewelry Organization

Why The Way You Store Your Jewelry Matters

After a long day, it is easy to just toss your jewelry into a drawer and decompress. Who wants to worry about organizing when you just want to relax? This is a great temporary solution. But over time, if you are not managing your mess, you are due for a big headache. Check in on your 'junk drawer' in a month and your are going to find a big rat tail of twisted necklaces and bracelets. This cluster will be cherry topped with earrings and it is going to be an absolute devil to uncurl and straighten out.

So. Let's just not find ourselves in that terrible mess.

Jewelry organization is easy. It does not have to be a chore to remove your sparkly stuff at the end of a long day. Especially if you have a creative way to display your creations. We want to look at ways to show off your favorite necklaces and bracelets and add a little beauty to the house while doing so.

Halloween Jewelry by Sara Oehler

If you create  illusion jewelry or just like to expose a lot of wire in a design, like the lariat above, you are going to want to treat that wire right. Soft Flex wire is kink resistant, however, if you just toss your beaded wire into an unorganized mess, you are risking bending the wire in odd spots. You may hang the design or store flat. Keep in mind that beading wire naturally wants to be in a circular shape. Gently loop it into a soft circle when storing flat. Treat your wire right and it will stay lovely.

The way you store your jewelry is important. Beading thread can get brittle. Elastic can weaken and stretch. Even a top of the line marine-quality stainless steel beading wire, like Soft Flex, should be treated kindly. Being good to your jewelry means decades of use and wear before worrying about restringing or maintenance. If you treat your jewelry poorly, you can weaken the beading cord you used to make it. If it sits in twisted pile, you are going to weaken points as it relaxes and then others while you fight to untangle everything.

If you design beaded jewelry and try to conceal every part of the wire, even up to the crimp, you are making a piece of jewelry that cannot relax. Beaded jewelry needs to breath a little. You want a little room between the last bead and your crimps. If you have jewelry that is taut and does not have a little room, storing this in a kinked pile is a sure candidate for a restring. How you store your jewelry is important. Organization is going to make it easy to display, access, and preserve your favorite jewelry.

At  Soft Flex Company, we have taken our jewelry all over the globe. We have attended trade shows and shared our designs with thousands of appreciative beaders. We have packed our demo necklaces and bracelets into totes. We have loaded our jewelry into suitcases. We have dealt industrial movers and shippers. We found that smart storage was the best way to keep our jewelry organized and healthy. We have had necklaces that have been tugged at and handled over and over and they still survived. Even our jewelry designed with Stretch Magic was able to handle the rigors and abuse of travel, as long as we stored our creations in an organized manner.

Smart jewelry storage at home is the best way to ensure your designs last for years and years. Let's learn how to organize our jewelry and make our house lovely!

Kristen's Favorite Jewelry Storage Finds

My quest today was to find simple and inspiring ideas for displaying your jewelry. I picked up these ideas from my Internet love, Pinterest and from blogs I follow. With some of you gearing up for craft shows, trade shows and sales within your retail store I hope some of these ideas inspire you!

Show off your jewelry in style with a simply gorgeous wall display using door knobs. You can take this idea and easily adapt it for booth display with a picture frame. I found this idea over at Apartment Therapy.

If you want to organize your jewelry out of sight you won't want to miss this brilliant hidden jewelry box that uses framed artwork on the front creating a secret hideaway for your baubles. Find out how to make this over at Design*Sponge.

I'm drooling over this wooden frame jewelry display. I love frames and this has so much storage space its fantastic! You can find the tutorial to make your own over at The Borrowed Abode.

For the ultimate combination of form and function check out Heather's pegboard jewelry holder I found over at Apartment Therapy.

This is a fabulous retro inspired idea, re-purposing a small patio table into a jewelry organizer. This would add a pop of color and a fun retro vibe to your home or booth. I also found this one at  Apartment Therapy.

Here is another re-purposed idea that is super simple and colorful. It's simply an oven rack! I bet you can pick one up at goodwill for pennies.

I'm in love with this garden rack jewelry holder. It it so unexpected yet makes total sense, am I right? It's similar to the tie rack holder I currently use but so much more fun. With the pearls hanging it has a very shabby chic vibe, original pin from Twig Home.

I thought how nice this would be to setup and take down for displaying at a show. It's made from a supply box for a one of a kind jewelry display cabinet. Check out more details at Design*Sponge.

Composed of a piece of driftwood suspended from the ceiling with fishing wire, the concept is simply lovely. Find details at Apartment Therapy.

This has a similar feel to the printing tray jewelry displays I see all over but on a smaller scale. It's made from a cutlery organizer, old door knobs, and scrapbook paper - genius! It would stand up on its own in a booth really well and you can group a few of them for a bigger impact.

This sweet shadow box display would look so pretty in your home (especially color grouped like they did here). It may also travel well for shows. This idea was found at Better Homes and Gardens.

I know there are a lot of branch display ideas out there but, this one is really elegant. A simple twig with tacks was found at Lou & Tom.

Of course no jewelry storage roundup would be complete without a framed display! I love the white lace but, best of all you can customize it to fit any decor you have just by using different colors for the frame and fabric.

Many of these finds were discovered on Pinterest. It's a great way to visually organize inspiration and online finds. If you are already on Pinterest, let's be pinning buddies! You can find me here.

Mounted pegboards, handmade jewelry twig displays, colorful organizers - what is your favorite way to show off your talents? Share your thoughts on our  Facebook group!

Splashy jewelry organizers are so much fun. And there is nothing wrong with occupying space on the nightstand. I have fond memories of a creative grandma. She kept her jewelry within reach on the dresser. A jewelry box and a lot of counter space was all she needed. I get a flood of nostalgia when I see similar pictures. Grandma loved her jewelry and wanted it to be visible.
