Beaded Necklace Dagger Pattern Tutorial, Beginner Bead Weaving

This week on Free Spirit Beading with Kristen Fagan, I share a beginner bead weaving tutorial using Soft Flex beading wire. Does the idea of bead weaving intimidate you? Me too! Which is why I'm surprised this is the tutorial I ended up creating. Sometimes we surprise even ourselves!

Supplies:

Soft Flex .019/Medium Beading Wire

Bead Mix

Dagger Beads

Ear Wires

2x2mm Crimp Tubes

Magical Crimping Pliers

Cutters

In this video, I share an easy bead weaving pattern. It's a bead weaving tutorial that is similar to simple stringing. This beading pattern is great for beginners. Then, I show how to make a matching pair of dagger dangle earrings.

I used Soft Flex beading wire in this design. Yep, you read that right, flexible beading wire for bead weaving! I used 4 feet of Soft Flex .019/Medium beading wire and crimped the back for this long necklace design. You could easily adapt this pattern and make a shorter necklace adding a clasp in the back.

.019/Medium diameter is a bit more structured than smaller diameter options, but it totally works in this design. I ended up doing a small section of weaving followed by simple stringing for a long 30" necklace. The blue wire color is fun to show off and since I bead up the back of the necklace the .019/Medium is a good option for that.

If you wanted to make a collar style necklace that is completely woven, I suggest experimenting with smaller diameters of Soft Flex beading wire. If you want the design to feel more like it is strung on thread, I suggest trying our Soft Touch beading wire. It is 50% more supple than Soft Flex and it goes down to .010/Very Fine diameter that is good for embellishments and detailed weaving.
