We love the timeless style of the Sundance Catalog. The Sundance Catalog is a compilation of artisan jewelry, clothing, and decorations for the home. The style leans toward an American Southwest aesthetic. The designs inside are always inspirational and exciting - if not always affordable. One fun thing about the catalog is that it is a great source of creative fuel. We gathered a beading party with a few of our favorite designers and spent an evening making jewelry that has a Sundance vibe. If you love Sundance, but don't have the pocketbook for a purchase, make your own Sundance inspired jewelry at home! DIY Celebrity Style! Sundance Catalog Inspired Jewelry
Inspired By Sundance
Check out our Sundance inspired beading party. If you are not familiar with the Sundance Catalog, it is part of the Sundance Group. This group is a conglomeration of business entities that seek to inspire and elevate artists. Robert Redford created these businesses to support film, fashion, and artisans in jewelry and more. The group is named after his iconic character from Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.
Kristen Fagan of Soft Flex Company
Kristen created an artisan necklace with a Southwest vibe. She used dainty Sodalite beads she bought from a Soft Flex Live Sale. Tiny, sparkly, and perfect for Sundance! She paired the Sodalite with Larimar. For a pendant, she used a brass dragonfly she got from Cynthia. This dragonfly is hand painted, which is a great way to personalize a jewelry piece. There will never be another one exactly like it!
Deb Floros of Deb Luvs Jewelry
Deb found her inspiration from pieces she saw in the catalog but she wanted add her own style to the designs. She created chunky and asymmetrical jewelry that we love! She used Turquoise, Agate, carved Carnelian, and pendants from Green Girl Studios. The Sundance Catalog is perfect for firing up creative ideas!
Heather Powers of Humblebeads
Heather has been following the trending colors and designs of spring and summer. She wanted to create with Lapis, Turquoise, Amazonite, and Carnelian. She used classic elements like button clasps and leather for a Southwestern look. Heather is adventurous and made asymmetrical designs with beaded links and beading wire. We think she nailed the Sundance vibe!
Danielle Wickes of Danielle Wickes Jewelry
Danielle has a masterful eye for color and coordinating beads. Check out her segment for a unique approach to Sundance designs. She went with a poppy floral and seasonal colorway. She used cute glass beads and dainty seed beads. She has Sundance sensibilities, but allowed her designs to be playful and fun. In the end, she has a cute and elegant theme that is perfect for a bright day!
Abbi Berta of The Bead Place
Abbi had a design plan before looking at the Sundance Catalog, but the latest issue left her awestruck. She was found a page that had chunky mixed metals and bold Turquoise and she knew this was the new direction she wanted to take with her jewelry. She also saw that a common element was accents on jewelry. She knew that she wanted easy but elegant accents to her piece. Her bracelet turned out stunning!
Rebecca Combs of Design & Adorn
Rebecca's store is a one stop shop for everything Kumihimo. She carries the tools and kits you need to start this amazing braiding technique. It is much easier than it looks but the designs have a complicated and elegant finish. The process for braiding a Kumihimo design is not quick enough to capture for a two hour video with other guests, so she showed us what you can make with her products. But since this was a live jewelry making show, she also created a cute pair of earrings!
Cassandra Spicer of Beads to Live By
Cassandra has kits and bundles of the designs she showed during the video, make sure you visit her site if you love her jewelry! Cassandra used medium Soft Flex and leather on her bracelet. The turquoise, mixed with copper color leather, really popped! She also had earrings that were easy to make with lots of silver and vibrant colors.
Cynthia Thornton of Green Girl Studios
Cynthia showed off her collection of Sundance inspired pieces. You can also see all of the wonderful pendants and components that Green Girl Studios carves and casts. You can see why the other designers in this video wanted to use her pendants. They are remarkably creative and perfect for a Sundance theme!
